Chombo

Chombo provides a set of tools for implementing finite difference and finite-volume methods for the solution of partial differential equations on block-structured adaptively refined logically rectangular grids. Both elliptic and time-dependent modules are included. Chombo supports particle methods, as well as calculations in complex geometries with both embedded boundaries and mapped grids. Most parallel platforms are supported, and cross-platform self-describing file formats are included.

Usage and applications: Chombo is distributed by giving access to the release repository to registered users. There have been 2,279 registrations since the beginning of 2012; of these, 1,484 occurred from 2013-2016 during SciDAC-3's FASTMath. Chombo is used in a number of DOE Office of Science applications ranging from fusion energy sciences (e.g., the COGENT project) to nanoscale modeling of subsurface reacting flows (an ECP application) and SciDAC climate modeling applications (ProSPect).
